Is this important?
In class today, me, Ingunn and Lova discussed the importance of a blog. What do we learn by blogging? Is it just a diary for our own amusement? Or does it help us understand and learn more about ourselves? I concluded by saying that to me a blog isn’t really more than a tool, helping me express my ideas around a subject (the subject at present day being ICT and Learning). But that’s good! As long as people write down their ideas and comment on each others ideas, blogging can be really helpful. But although blogging isn’t really that important to me, I understood it became more and more important to others, and when I came home today, I read an interesting article in the news. Check it out, and think about how important blogging would be in a situation like that. Here’s the link: http://www.dagbladet.no/magasinet/2007/10/30/516692.html

Yes Arild, you’re right about the importance here – it’s the (only?) contact with the outside world, a possibility to share their story. Maybe from only one side, but hey – it’s not the news (which by the way aren’t always that good at not taking sides…)
Ole, Lena and I also talked about the subject of what a personal blog is. Of us it’s only me who has one, and I use it sort of as a diary (as Lena just this second pointed out to me on msn..) I have no specific subject, but I write whtaever comes to mind – and what can be public, as I don’t want the blog to be uncomfortably personal.
And then there’s the blogs like those we write here, of a specific subject. I think they are the most interesting from an academic point of view, at least if we are speaking of academics outside the area og psychology…

Yes, as meany artefacts, blog is a tool that can be used to many purposes, diary as you mentionned, journalism/documenting (as in the featured blog), with a (possible different) purpose for ourselves and for our readers, clarify our thoughts, release pressure, informe, entertainement and more….
In a learning context, the blog can be a tool possibly helping for developpement (cf.: Vygotsky’s “zone of proximal development” as mentionned in Feilberg’s article) in many ways.
